The American Dream

My dreams have changed over the past few years. That's since moving to Roanoke. I used to want to live in a big city and make lots of money. Well the money part still stands but all I really want is to live in a house on Smith Mountain Lake and have parties all the time...It's a little more complex than that.

When I was living in New York I didn't know what I was missing most of the time. We'd visit my relatives in Virginia and it was nice but I liked living in the North.

Now I realize that I lived 18 years of my life in a hole that many people will never get out of. People in New York don't know what's out there. In other words they don't know what's out here.

The people here are great, the mountains are addictive, and the weather is the best.

I have never left another city and missed it the way I miss Roanoke. Thinking about the mountains and the sun setting behind them gives me a charge when I start the 3 hour drive back from my Parent's place in Richmond.

If I had one wish to make in this life it would be that I could stay here and live out my days visiting, or living at, Smith Mountain Lake and drinking cocktails as the sun goes down. I don't think there could be a better thing to hope for.
