Drunk and Lying
The second John Michael Montgomery finished his rendition of the National Anthem at the Golden Corral 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, I told you on this website that he was drunk. (Post 03/20/05: "Golden Corral 500") It's now been more than a week and finally he's come out to apologize.
But on his website he says it wasn't alcohol at all...
"I have been diagnosed with a condition known as Acoustic Neuroma which can seriously affect my hearing and balance. The unsteadiness in me that you saw was my vertigo and lack of balance."Hmmmm. OK. That explains it all, right?
If you were watching the race, as I was, you noticed that the cameras cut away from John just seconds after he started, and never once went back. Why? You ask. Well, I'll tell you. Take a look at this picture...

First of all, he doesn't look sober. But that's not all. Why do you think he kept looking down at the back of the track pass hanging from his neck? What was written on that pass?
Hey John...Does your inner ear problem also make it hard to remember lyrics?

hey Smelly, you got something against being drunk at a Nascar Race?
Captain
I've never had to sing the National Anthem at one. Granted, if I did, I would probably be drunk too...but not THAT drunk.
Can you find a video of it? I missed it...must have been getting a beer
Captain
