A Christmas Tradition Lost

I can remember, even as a little child, leaving the house with my father to pick out our wonderful Holiday Tree. We would either cut one down ourselves or go to the YMCA in Cortland New York. They had Holiday Trees lined up out front and we had our pick if we went early enough. Now in Roanoke my girlfriend and I are going out this weekend to pick up our Holiday Tree, and decorate it with many little Holiday decorations.

WHAT'S WRONG WITH THAT STORY???

I'll tell you what's wrong...The City of Roanoke!

A tree at Christmas is not a Holiday Tree...It's a CHRISTMAS tree. But for some reason Someone's decided to officially change the name of the tree Downtown to Roanoke's Holiday Tree.

What would the reason be behind that kind of a decision? Is someone trying not to offend certain citizens of the valley? Has the city received thousands of complaints about our Christmas tradition? I would venture a guess that it has not.

Never the less, Nelson Harris has even decided to go against his own religion and AGREE WITH THE DECISION. Here's his input courtesy of WFIR Radio.
MAYOR NELSON HARRIS CLAIMS ROANOKE IS A DIVERSE COMMUNITY...AND THE TERM "HOLIDAY" RESPECTS THE AREA'S MANY BACKGROUNDS. HARRIS--WHO IS A BAPTIST MINISTER--SAYS HE HAS NO INTENTIONS OF PUTTING THE "CHRISTMAS" BACK IN ROANOKE'S CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY.
How about we don't put a tree up at all to respect the area's many backgrounds? Political Correctness has gone too far.

Do you know a site or email address where we could all let Mr. Harris know how we feel about this change? It may not change anything, but I think it would be a great show of support if a LOT of emails and letters come through letting him know that Roanoke has, and for us always will have, a Christmas tree and a Christmas parade.

MAYOR NELSON HARRIS CLAIMS ROANOKE IS A DIVERSE COMMUNITY...

Apparently it is so diverse we have a minister here that does not accept Christ in his life.

My hubby can't have a "Christmas" party for his class, which I totally understand and agree with... it's not fair to all the kids. (He is allowed to put up his Christmas tree, and to have a winter party.) But he has to suffer through the school's annual Halloween parties. Does anybody else see this whole thing as a double standard? I wouldn't care so much about the Holiday Tree crap if I didn't already get Halloween and the Easter Bunny shoved in my face every year, despite the fact that I do not observe either of those things. (Easter, yes, just not the Bunny.)
